Your First Visit
At your first visit to our office, Dr. San Martín will conduct a free exam for you or your child. Diagnostic records will be taken which include a medical/dental history, clinical examination, photos, and digital X-rays. The doctor will then carefully examine the teeth for a wide range of possible orthodontic problems, such as crowding, cross-bite, gaps, etc. Based on this information, Dr. San Martín will determine if you or your child would benefit from orthodontic treatment and if it is the correct time to start.
Once the doctor has a clear picture of the most likely course of treatment, we’ll discuss a custom treatment plan that addresses your unique needs. We will let you know how long it will take, and estimate how much it will cost. Once finished, you’ll understand everything you need to know in order to decide whether to proceed with treatment.
If you are ready, we will schedule the appointment to get your new appliances (braces, expanders, etc.) placed. Getting appliances placed usually takes one to two hours. You’ll then see us at regular intervals four to eight weeks apart for an adjustment, which takes about 15 minutes.
Our team is here to serve you by appointment only, as continuing education and meetings do require the doctor to occasionally be out of the office. We make every effort to be on time for our patients, and ask that you extend the same courtesy to us. If you cannot keep an appointment, please notify us as soon as possible. It is difficult to reschedule since most appointments are made 4 to 8 weeks in advance, so please, only cancel in an emergency.
