Temporary Anchorage Devices (TAD) are small titanium anchors that can be used in certain orthodontic situations. These are placed using a strong topical anesthetic to numb your gums and jaw around where the TAD will be placed. Once the area is numb, Dr. San Martín will gently place the TAD through the gum tissue and firmly into the jaw. This process does not take a long time, and during placement you may feel slight pressure. The TAD will be removed at the end of treatment or when it is no longer needed.

If you feel any discomfort after the placement of a TAD, you can take whichever medication you normally take for headaches. In the event that the TAD becomes loose, call our office as soon as possible.

If you have any questions concerning TAD’s, please do not hesitate to contact our office.
